During the start of the Advent season this year, St. Timothy Parish Faith Formation families gathered to celebrate a festive Family Faith Day!
The afternoon included learning about the season of Advent with a fun contest where several teams competed by answering Advent and Christmas related questions. Congratulations to the team who named themselves “Team Red” that won the quiz contest! Here’s one of the questions asked during the quiz: Who “leaped for joy” when Mary visited Elizabeth? The answer is found at the bottom of this article. No peeking yet!
The children and young adults were reminded during Family Faith Day that Advent not only commemorates the first coming of baby Jesus into our world but it’s also a time to prepare as we wait in hope for the risen Jesus to come in glory at His second coming at the end of time.
The question was asked “How do you and your family prepare when you expect visitors?” You may tidy the house, and plan and go shopping for meals. Likewise, during the four weeks of Advent, the Church invites us to prepare to welcome Jesus at Christmas. We wait for him as people of long ago did, because he is our loving Savior. We celebrate his birthday by welcoming him into our hearts. When Christ lives in our hearts, we are filled with grace. His grace helps us share more deeply in his own life so that we become more like Him.
Our Faith Formation families then utilized their crafting skills and put together small Advent wreaths with green garland, LED tea lights, and purple and rose colored ribbons. The families took the beautiful wreaths home to light during these coming weeks as we prepare for Christmas.
With Advent and Christmas music playing in the background, the families then moved on to decorating Christmas sugar cookies using creamy frosting and colorful sprinkles and sugars.
Light refreshments, including hot chocolate, donut holes, and some of those sweet cookies, were enjoyed by all.
Thanks to all the children, young adults, families, and to Father Dennis, who shared this wonderful Family Faith Day with us!
From our Faith Formation Family to yours, have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
Answer to the quiz question above: It was John the Baptist who leaped for joy in Elizabeth’s womb when Mary, who was carrying our Lord, visited Elizabeth.
A Childrens Prayer for Advent
My little Lord Jesus, I love You and thank You for this Advent season. Please help me to understand all that You have done for me. Your loving mother held You in her heart and brought You into this world. Help me to do the same.
My loving Jesus, I choose You, this Advent, as my King and my God. Draw me close to You and help me to see my sins so that I can change the things that You want me to change.
Mother Mary, pray for me this Advent so that I may do all that God wants me to do. You said “Yes” to all that God asked of you. Please pray for me that I may do the same.
Come, Lord Jesus,
Come, Lord Jesus,
Come, Lord Jesus, come!
I love You, Jesus.
Amen.

Together, with parents and families, we're here to help form your young person in the Catholic Faith.
We're so glad to have your family be part of our Faith Formation program!
Please complete one registration form per student.
Print and fill out the paper form that is available on this page. It should be sent to the Faith Formation office. Hours are Tuesdays, 9:30am-2:30pm.
We are all called by virtue of our Baptism to share the good news of the Gospel. Please don't assume that someone else will say yes to being a catechist volunteer. Our young people need YOU!
We're looking for volunteers to start in September. Previous teaching experience not necessary. Don’t be afraid that you don’t know every detail of your faith; part of being a catechist is openness to learning as you teach. We provide lesson material and support. Anytime during the year is a great time to begin getting involved! And if you want to start by just substituting when needed, you can do that too!
If you think you're being called, please contact our staff during normal office hours (9:30am-2:30pm) on Tuesdays. Thank you!
