The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has a history of over 100 years, in which Christians around the world have taken part in an octave (8 days) of prayer for visible Christian unity. By annually observing this week of prayer, Christians move toward the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one." The theme for 2021 was chosen by the Monastic Community of Grandchamp located near Lake Neuchatel in Switzerland. The theme, "Abide in my love... You shall bear much fruit" from the Gospel of John, chapter 15, expresses the Grandchamp Community’s vocation to prayer, reconciliation, and unity in the Church and the human family. A prayer for unity: Holy Spirit, vivifying fire and gentle breath, come and abide in us. Renew in us the passion for unity so that we may live in awareness of the bond that unites us in you. May all who have put on Christ at their Baptism unite and bear witness together to the hope that sustains them. Amen.
