Catholics across the country are encouraged to observe a nationwide prayer vigil from Thursday, January 20 to Friday, January 21, 2022, marking the 49th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalizing abortion through nine months of pregnancy. Since those decisions, over 62 million abortions have been performed in the United States. Due to pandemic precautions, the on-site events will be condensed. The Opening Mass will take place from 5:30pm-7pm on Thursday, January 20. After the Mass and during the night, holy hours led by bishops from various dioceses around the country will be shared on the USCCB’s website usccb.org/national-prayer-events-for-life. The vigil concludes at 8am on Friday, January 21 with the Closing Mass. The live television broadcasts on January 20 from 5:30pm-8pm and on January 21 from 8am-9am will be provided by the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
